Read MORE WONDERFUL excerpts:

From Abby Houlette, Ohio: "I have made 300 Valentines myself with the help of my daughter who is 3, her cousin 5, and her other cousin, 5."

Sonya Johnson and Residents of Windy Hill Village, Pennsylvania: "We were very happy to help break the chains. The residents really enjoyed making the Valentines with the staff. It made them feel like they were helpful and they were proud to be part of it."

Jill Murphy and Andrea Gard, Indiana: "The inpatients on Youth Services at Parkview Behavioral Health have made the enclosed Valentines. The children ages 4-18 years old utilize the HSUS KIND News graciously donated by Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control. While reading the newsletter they asked to work on the project."

Laura Stanley, Georgia: "I teach gifted students. The children I teach may be small in size, but to hear them express themselves on this issue, I realized that their hearts are huge."

Jessica Smith, Illinois: "Last year I sent Valentines made by my clients from Chestnut Heath Systems, a residential treatment facillity for chemically dependent adolescents...thanks for mentioning us on your website, the kids were very excited to see that their hard work had been acknowledged! This year, we have again made Valentines to support your cause."

L.P. Reinhardt, Florida: "Exclosed are the Valentines that the WAGS club made for your Have a Heart for Chained Dogs campaign. These are 6-8th grade students who come to school early once a week to learn about proper animal care and how to help animals in our community."

Nicole Kress-Scheidmantel, West Virginia: "These are from my Speech and Language Delayed children as well as children with other disabilities. We read the book Buddy Unchained first, and then had a lesson about dogs and how to care for them. Sadly, most of the children keep dogs outside. So hopefully this was a little push for them to think about their dogs and their care."

Claudia Lang, Michigan: "The students and I felt strongly about the chained dogs, so we made Valentines as suggested in Kind News. The children were very touched, thank you for letting us help."

Ms. Jackson, Texas: "We (6th grade students) love working on projects like this, and are now writing a persuasive paper to either a pet owner who chains his dog, or to an editor of a paper to try to get them to write an article regarding this important matter."

Priscilla Makhmaltchi, New York: "I am a graduate student studying speech pathology, and I thought this was a great project for my students."

Liza Lyons, Massachusetts: "I hope these Valentines will make a difference. No animal should suffer at the hands of humans—it's such a simple concept, yet people turn their heads and refuse to acknowledge the animals who need a voice."

Carrie Nutter-Novak, Illinois: "I am an occupational therapist for Chicago Public Schools and the children and adolescents I work with display a variety of physical and social challenges, but they put their all into designing cards for the chained dogs."

Diane Stevens, New Jersey: "Thank you for raising awareness. My children and I loved making the cards. I can only imagine how could it would be to live outside day after day, shivering..."

Nicci Ahrens, Illinois: "I work for a non-profit organization, Cornerstone Services, which provides services for people with disabilities, promoting choice, dignity, and the opportunity to live and work in the community. Cornerstone Services would like to donate these Valentine's to help save dogs who are mistreated...clients made these with love and hope. If these Valentines can save one dog, our efforts will be put to good use."

Drea de Luca, New Jersey: "My class, a 5th grade honors class, learned so much from this project and your website and were totally focused. This was my 3rd year and I already look forward to next year."

Valerie Belt, California: "Enclosed please find Valentines made by 4th grade students. The students just finished reading Shiloh, about an abused chained dog, and I also enclosed a few samples of the letters the students wrote the abuse presentation."

Robin Horgan, Florida: "I was very excited to make Valentines after school with our students. This was the first time many of them had been made aware of the cruelty going on. The students are so interested that now I'm looking into starting a school club that will help raise awareness and raise money. Of course making Valentines will ALWAYS be high on our agenda."

A special thanks to the Ebensburg Center Paws Club, run by Melanie Riggleman. They had a contest between employees in different buildings, and as a result we ended up with 4,000 Valentines just from their work!
