Copyright 2005 Associated Press

HELENA, Montana — It's a lucky thing for the Montana governor's dog that two state workers happened by on a mid-day walk.

The workers probably saved the dog's life. The two women were walking near the governor's mansion Wednesday afternoon when they heard a whimper coming from the back yard. They found a small dog suspended by a leash over the side of a brick wall. The dog was slowly strangling.

The women boosted the dog up the wall and back into the yard.

No one was at the mansion, and the governor is on vacation.

Governor Brian Schweitzer's spokesman says the governor will undoubtely be grateful.
