Dear Tammy,

Chain Off 2008 Wrap UpWhere will you find MORE MEDIA Coverage, MORE EXCITEMENT and MORE AWARENESS raised for chained/ penned dogs than ever before?  The Chain-Off 2008 Wrap Up of course!

What's it like to live chained for 8-24 hours?  Read what our heroes have to say about it. These warriors were willing to stick their necks out for chained dogs - and when I say necks - I mean necks with a collar and a chain!

While many Americans were celebrating their own freedom this Independence Day, DDB Dog Warriors braved the heat, cold, rain, hail, jeers and cheers as they spent hours chained outside for Man's Best Friends who are not free.  Won't you please commemorate their dedication with us by visiting http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/ChainOff08/unchainourworldchicagopost.html?

You too can still make a difference!

More chain-off wrap-up being added daily, check back often!
Animal Cops!
DDB Supporters Featured on Animal Planet

Ashley with her new familyTerry and Bobbie McIntyre will introduce to the nation their home for dogs and cats on Animal Planet Thursday on "Animal Cops: Philadelphia."

Bobbie was once a very busy Dogs Deserve Better Representative. Bobbie and Terry continue to be two of our greatest supporters.  Terry and Bobbie fell in love with Ashley at DDB's  anti-tethering conference in Harrisburg in March. All the way home they discussed adopting Ashley and the feeling was mutual that Ashley was destined to become a McIntyre.

Ashley was a tethered dog. Her caretaker left a pan of cooking oil on the stove that caught fire.  She grabbed the pan off the stove and threw the hot cooking oil out the door when it hit Ashley who was unable to flee. Ashley never saw a vet after the incident and the SPCA took Ashley from the home charging the caretaker for not providing veterinary care for their dog.

Bobbie filled out an adoption application for Ashley.  When Jody came from the ASPCA for a home check for Bobbie and Terry she left saying that she didn't want Ashley to live with them. The McIntyre's were shocked until Jody continued, " I don't want Ashley to live here because if she does you won't have room for me and I want to live with you too!"  Who wouldn't?  Eight lucky dogs, 3 cats and a large swimming pool for all the dogs to play in!

The McIntryre's are a fun lovin' and happy family.  Bobbie says, "It's easy for anyone to be a rescue family. All you have to do is adopt a needy dog into your home."

When the McIntyre's went to pick up their new family member they were surprised to have some people waiting for them.  The Animal Planet crew was there to meet Ashley's new family and thanks to them you can meet them too.

Tune in this Thursday at 10 PM Eastern to "The Animal Cops: Philadelphia" on Animal Planet.

Success Story
Deisel and Hogan: Rescued from Their Chains and Loving Life!

Deisel on his chain Hogan before rescue
Indiana: Deisel and Hogan are two German Shepherd mix pups that were rescued by DDB Indiana Rep, Marie Belanger. These two boys were living chained outside with no food, water or shelter. Well - good news! Their lives have recently taken a major turn for the better! Both pups have been adopted into loving forever homes where they live inside as part of the family. Read the latest updates and view pictures from their new families.

Featured Rep
Adam Moran, San Antonio, Texas

DDB Rep: Adam MoranAdam Moran, DDB's brand new Rep in San Antonio,Texas is hitting the ground running!  On July 5th Adam chained himself with a 10-foot chain with a master lock around his neck in front of a dog park.  Fifteen minutes after the snap of the lock a media whirlwind surrounded him.  Adam chained himself for 12 hours and was back at it again at 8am the following morning.  To top it all off Adam was featured in multiple news articles and appeared on CNN Headline news!

Adam also had his first successful rescues with Ashes an 8-month-old pit bull and Daisy a 9-month-old GSD mix.  Then surprise! While saving Daisy, he rescued a 9-year-old Terrier mix that had been chained her entire life!  Of course, Adam doesn't do it alone, his lovely wife assists him.  Thanks Adam we can hardly wait to see what you do next!
DDB Memorial
Heidi DDB Mascot

We will always remember Heidi

Heidi was the last of the original Dogs Deserve Better pack.  A Rottweiler mix she was the gentlest of souls, always submissive to all the dogs and cats. She played dress-up with Brynnan without complaint.

Heidi came to DDB Headquarters in the beginning, when we were barely more than a twinkle in Tammy Grimes' eye.

Each day she would ride to the post office, to the bank on errands and rescue missions with Kim, our DDB Office Manager and the two quickly bonded into soul mates.

Heidi was at least 10 years old when she passed.  Heidi's favorite thing in the world was cheese and she even spent a day on her own "Cheese Picnic" with her DDB family.

Dogs Deserve Better would be very grateful for donations in Heidi's honor.

Featured Adoptables
Dudley Urgently Needs a Home!
Dudley Do Right, OH - Dudley is a 3-year old, Shepherd/Rottie/cutie pie mix. He is very lovable but is currently living on a chain most of the day and does not get to share his sweet personality with his family. To make matters worse, Dudley's caretaker has moved to a nursing home - leaving Dudley without a home.  This is a heartbreaking and urgent situation - we are a hoping that our supporters will step up to help this sweet boy before it is too late.

As a large breed dog - Dudley would do best with larger canine companions and older children. Dudley knows a few commands and is very eager to please. He loves kisses and to snuggle.

Dudley would love a home with a securely fenced in yard that he can run and play in. If you can offer Dudley a loving, stable home, where he will live as part of the family, please contact Marla: crzylovindoglady@yahoo.com

Zeke is craving a home of his own

Zeke, South Carolina - Zeke is 10-11 month old Great Dane mix. He was rescued from life on a chain.  He is good with other dogs and really wants to play with everyone. He weighs about 80 pounds maybe a little more now.

He is energetic, but calms down after he is has been with someone for a few minutes. He is learning how to walk, not pull, on a leash, but still needs practice. Zeke loves to fetch toys! If you have room in your heart and in your home for this sweet boy, please contact Alicia:803-329-0689.
