Who
Is Dying in PA Without a Law to Protect Them?-- Dogs and Kids
"A Chained Dog's World" poem by
Heather Leughmyer accompanies images of Pennsylvania chained dogs still
waiting for a law, despite 6 years of efforts by dog advocates.
If
either of the past two laws had succeeded, not only would dogs lives
have been spared, but the life of Brianna Shanor would have been spared
as well. She died from a chained dog attack in January 2009, after a law
advocates passed out of committee languished and died on the house
floor without a vote. See

a Fence-- Make a Difference for a Dog Like Joshua in North Carolina
Wendy
Wilson, DDB supporter and volunteer, saw Joshua chained near where she
lives. She stopped by one day to talk to Joshua's guardian Chris, told
him about DDB and he was very interested in making life better for
Joshua. A few days later, Wendy and Shari Strader, DDB Rep Greensboro
NC, went by to talk to Chris about a fence. He understood the dangers of
chaining, and said he really didn't want to chain him but because of
financial constraints he felt he had no choice. He signed the fencing
agreement, and Wendy, Shari, and another volunteer, Cam, built Joshua's
fence the following week. Chris agreed to bring Josh into the home and
family and most importantly, to never chain him again.
Dogs
Deserve Better regularly provides $200.00 in welded wire fencing for
anyone willing to bring their dog inside to live. In cases of
multiple dogs chained to the same area, we provide fencing even if they
are not brought inside to live so they may play and sleep
together. Find

Before
From
the Mailbag-- Angel's Story Rescued After Life in a Pen
The day before Easter, Angel, the sweet
senior lab girl that was kept in a pen her whole life, was rescued.
According to Tammi Ruppert, Angel's nails were the worst she'd ever
seen. The AC Officer who seized her said she was in a rabbit hutch type
pen. Angel could barely walk.
She went straight to the groomer and they
outfitted her with bunny ears in time for Easter. She won over the
hearts of the ladies who cleaned her up. They said she was so grateful
and happy for the personal attention she obviously has never recieved
before today.
After a hamburger patty it was off to the
vet, where she got all checked out and the greatest news is she is HW
negative. I thought for sure she would not be. Her wonderful foster Dad
Gary, pictured below with Angel, picked her up to go home-- to both a
soft bed and other dogs--to get used to being an indoor dog. She will
enjoy morning hikes with Gary and his pack, and a warm bed at night and
lots of love and attention.
According to her foster dad, Angel is
loving having the freedom to walk around and is gaining strength. He
takes her and his other dogs on a morning hike/walk, and she is loving
that.
Happy
Endings like this are the best!
