Trial Dates Set, Grimes Silenced
Judge Issues Gag Order

Judge Imposes Gag Order on Tammy

On Monday, September 19th a Jury was selected in the Case of Tammy Grimes and the trial has been set for December 12th, 13th and 14th according to the Court Administration's Office at Blair County Courthouse.

The judge issued a Gag Order on Grimes and everyone involved in the case, however, a call to the court house revealed that the jury has been selected and the above dates have been set for the trial. It is unlikely that Grimes' evidence including a video of the dog's suffering and the veterinarian's report  will be deemed admissible.

Grimes was arrested for theft when she rescued a dying dog on September 11, 2006.

Just remember, Grimes voice may be temporarily silenced, but you still have yours. Let your voices be heard December 12th, 13th, and 14th! More information

In other news, on this same day, Dogs Deserve Better has signed a Private Criminal Complaint against the Arnold's.

These dog owners "allegedly" left their dog "Jake" renamed "Doogie" lying on the ground without being able to stand for days before Grimes stepped in on September 11, 2006 and took Doogie to the vet and refused to return him. Grimes was subsequently arrested for theft of the dog from the Arnold's property.

Go GiGi Girl!

Click here to learn more about Gigi

Gigi is a very sweet girl who was rescued from life on a chain.

When she came into rescue she was missing fur all over her body due to mal-nutrition and was underweight. Despite her horrible beginning, Gigi is a wonderful, loving dog.

Here is what her foster mom has to say about Gigi:

Gigi is proud of her new hair on her ears and the rest of her hair is filling in nicely. She is the sweetest, happiest, most gentle housedog I have ever had.

She loves big dogs, little dogs, cats, men, women and children.  Gigi is approximately 4 years old.

She is housetrained and crate trained. She would be a wonderful companion for an older person or children.

If you can offer Gigi a loving home, please Contact: Tracy Dean (706) 323-4263

Leroy Deserves a Home
Lifetime on a Chain, 2 Years in the Shelter

PLEASE Give Leroy a Home for the Holidays

The poor boy has never known what life should be like, going from an entire lifetime on a chain to a kennel awaiting adoption.

Leroy has been at the shelter for almost 2 years now and no one even looks at him!

Leroy is housebroken and never dirties his kennel. He also loves to play ball, of course since he's older he can't run as fast as the younger dogs!

Leroy is such a sweet boy who adores attention, and he deserves to finally be able to sleep in a bed at night. He needs someone to make up for all the time lost.

Please do not let Leroy spend his second Christmas at the shelter.  Save Leroy!
Outside and Intact
Max's Story

DDB Representative Janelle Kowal, Michigan, wrote a compelling editorial regarding Max, a recently rescued Beagle who spent the entire 9 years of his life tethered outside.

Max's owners went to great lengths to keep him an outside dog, for fear of ruining their hunting dog.  For years his owners overdosed him on sedatives to prevent him from howling.

"Max is an old man. He has endured extreme Michigan weather (heavy snow, ice, sleet, hail, wind, rain, humidity, heat and tornadoes)."

Janelle writes:
If you, or someone you know, still thinks it is okay to keep dogs outside 24/7 because they are animals, let's consider another serious problem with the "outside Dog." Read More

Together We Are Breaking Chains

Together we are breaking chains!

Hi Tammy,

I think what you are doing is so awesome. Through your website my wife and I were able to get chaining and tethering made illegal in our little town of Statham, Georgia. Now, Athens-Clarke County, Georgia is in on the discussion of chaining.

I cannot tell you how inspiring you are and how much strength you give me knowing that I can make a difference. Thanks for all you do, Tim Terilli

Note from Editor:
The Athens-Clarke County ordinance referred to above was passed on 11/6/07!
Alachua County, Florida's new
anti-tethering ordinance was passed in September, thanks to Sharon Nataline, DDB Gainesville, FL representative who worked diligently with her Animal Services Department to get the ordinance implemented.

Two New Designs From Dogs Deserve Better!

Four Seasons of a Chained DogThink about the poor chained dogs everywhere that never get a break from bad weather, the heat, the cold, the rain, the snow.
This design highlights their plight and reminds people of their loneliness.
Make your House a Home

"He has a doghouse" is not a reasonable excuse for the neglect and abuse chained dogs must face outside everyday. This design pleads to the chained dog owner to open their heart and their homes.
