Freedom for Humans and Dogs Dear Tammy,

On this day in America we give tribute to those who lost their lives during a terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Ironically, today marks the 1st Anniversary of the rescue of Doogie, the chained dog dying in FREEDOM Township, Pennsylvania.

Today as we relive the grief we felt during the attack on innocent lives in our country, we also bear in mind our own case of injustice.

Today we remember Doogie, who represents millions of chained dogs across the country and we praise our Founder, Tammy Grimes for her unselfish devotion when she unlocked the chain that held him prisoner for all but the last few months of his life.

For all the heroes of September 11th, we honor you. On this day of remembrance, DDB is not only pleased to announce the legal changes that are having a positive impact on our 24/7 backyard dogs, but we are even more pleased at the overwhelming praise authorities are giving these changes! Now that more and more tethering limits and bans have been put in place, more citizens, elected officials, Police Officers, Animal Control and Humane Officers are seeing for themselves how necessary these regulations are.

Read for yourself how laws are working and what happens when dog owners fail to adhere to the new statutes.

DDB In The News:
It can't get much worse than being chained to a doghouse 24/7

Lori Roush editor of the Hillsboro, Ohio Times Gazette publishes this article and asks readers: 'Let's use our imagination for a minute.'

Let's pretend that you have come across some dire circumstances in your life and must move in with a friend. This friend seems very welcoming and nice at first, but after a few days, she gets irritated at having an extra being to think about in her home.

One day, the two of you take a walk around the yard. Suddenly, she grabs you and ties you to a tree, then leaves.

Grimes to Speak
At International Festival, NC

Join Dogs Deserve Better Founder Tammy Sneath Grimes at Becoming the Change! The Annual International Compassionate Living Festival on October 5-7 in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina.

The event is co-produced by the Culture and Animals Foundation and the Animals and Society Institute. The three-day program consists of 17 esteemed authors, academics, activists and artists united for social and political change on behalf of animals worldwide.

The conference will address such issues as primate research, bird flu, animal rights history and philosophy, dog chaining, feral cats, activist civil liberties, the confinement of elephants and whales in zoos and aquariums, political strategies, and more. Opening night will feature a special presentation on the mainstreaming of vegan chic. Registration ends September 21, and student scholarships are available. Five vegan meals are included with registration, and discounted hotel rates are offered.

Information and online registration are available at: www.animalsandsociety.org/conference07.htm.

See you there!

Success Stories
Sheeba - Home at Last!

The first plea for help we received for Sheeba came from a concerned neighbor almost three years ago.

Sheeba was chained outside in sub-zero temperatures in East Providence, RI. Her dog house was too small for Sheeba to enter. DDB Maine Area Rep, Susanna Richer, was the closest Rep to Sheeba. Richer visited Sheeba's home four times, made countless calls to Animal Control and State Humane agents and even tried to purchase Sheeba from her owners - all to no avail.

Sheeba's owner's believed that she was fine living outside, alone, in the cold and refused to consider re-homing her.

Puggie Update
DDB E-News Readers DO Make a Difference!

CHAIN OFF 2007 LOGO

Thanks to DDB E-News Readers Puggie has a home! Remember the little dog who was chained because he didn't match the new carpet? The response was so overwhelming to save him that it took days to go through the emails! Puggie is safe and happy in Illinois with people who care more about their family than they do the carpet.

"Material things can be replaced - the love of a loyal friend is priceless!"

Get Political for Animal and Get The Laws They Need

We received the below review of this manual from one of our own DDB Reps, and felt it important to share with our supporters:

"Today I received GET POLITICAL FOR ANIMALS and WIN THE LAWS THEY NEED. I have never seen such a fabulous book that helps animal advocates learn how to work through the politics. I wish this book had been around years ago. I urge all of you, if you have not already ordered it, do so ASAP. It is money well spent and it will help you gain the confidence and knowledge you need to pass anti-tethering laws in your area (or any other animal laws, you are working on!) It will tell you what to do and NOT to do. The book is easy reading and written in a step-by-step format. I haven't been able to put it down!" - Patricia Aldering, DDB Rep, Kalamazoo, Michigan

Oh Those Wonderful Reps!
Kudos to GA Rep: Pam Cheatham

Alex the HuskyPam Cheatham, Conyers, Georgia receives her accolades this week!

A gentleman called DDB's Tipton Office to express his gratitude for help received from the Georgia representative of Dogs Deserve Better.

The dog owner wanted us to know that he thinks Pam is a wonderful person and said she was very helpful and caring. Of course we agree!

Pam recently approached him about his chained dog, she helped him with fencing and gave some phenomenal advice.

Dogs Deserve Better's auction has started for a one-of-a-kind artpiece addressing dog chaining, dog fighting, and the abuse of America's pit bull type dogs.

The piece, created by founder Tammy Grimes, is entitled "Falling Star, Rising Son: The Football Player and the Pit Bull", and contains stars and a shard border cut from actual NFL football tickets which were donated to the organization.

The auction will run on e-bay through September 13th, and can be reached through this link: http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/fallingstar.html. To buy prints of the piece without the football tickets, visit http://www.littlegirllooking.com/fallingstar.html.

Our movement is growing, expanding, making HUGE strides, thanks to your help. Please stick with us, we really CAN change the world for chained and penned dogs.

Sincerely,
