70 People Chip In to Pay Thayne's Fine
70 dog lovers sent a strong message to
Pennsylvania officials this week by contributing anywhere from $5-$250
to pay dog advocate Tamira Ci Thayne's trespassing fine. They want to
know why no animal abuse charges were filed against the owners of seven
dogs chained with physical ailments on abandoned property near Tyrone,
Pennsylvania.
Together the group raised $1713.00 to pay a
fine of $243.00. The remaining money was donated to Dogs Deserve Better,
a nonprofit working solely on behalf of chained and penned dogs. Read more...

Where
is Big Boy? Update on the Gypsy Hollow Dogs
The CPHS
will not allow Dogs Deserve Better to pull the three dogs, even though
we pull dogs from shelters all over the country, get them housetrained,
vetted, and ready for new homes. Other 501c3 nonprofit rescue
organizations have also tried to pull the dogs. They've been told that
the shelter will adopt out the two, the hound and the brown dog, but
that Big Boy, the one with the tumor on his face will not be available
for adoption, and they will not release information on him.
Good
shelters nationwide allow rescue organizations to pull any dogs they
want from there in order to save space for other dogs and stop the
killing of animals. If this shelter had a place for these dogs, why
would they kill any or all of them?
Read
the story and find out how you can help...
Now apparently the two dogs left on the site
have gone missing! As of March 21st, only one brown dog remains at
the shelter. No news on where the other two have gone.
Does Your State Have a Good
Samaritan Law?
Did you know many other states have Good
Samaritan laws that would have protected Thayne's actions in EACH AND
EVERY CASE?
Here's an example from Ohio: SECTION 1717.13 "When,
in order to protect any animal from neglect, it is necessary to take
possession of it, any person may do so. When an animal is impounded or
confined, and continues without necessary food, water, or proper
attention for more than 15 successive hours, ANY PERSON may, as often as
is necessary, enter any place in which the animal is impounded or
confined and supply it with necessary food, water, and attention, so
long as it remains there, or if necessary or convenient, he may REMOVE
such animal; and he shall NOT BE LIABLE to an action for an entry. In
all cases the owner or custodian of such animal, if known to such
person, immediately shall be notified by him of such action. If the
owner or custodian is unknown to such person, and cannot with reasonable
effort be ascertained by him, such animal shall be considered an stray
and dealt with as such."

Spotlight- Tim Treybal DDB Rep Minnesota
There is a
blind four year old yellow Lab named Cody that I drive by four times a
day going to work (I go home for lunch). He is
chained to the bumper of one of many junk cars in the yard. The
situation is horrible in my mind, to the point that at times, I will
avert my eyes as I pass by. Most times I just have to look to make sure
he is okay and always hoping some day he will not be there having been
brought into the home. This has not happened (yet). One very cold Minnesota
evening in the winter of 2009, I called the police and asked them to
visit the home and ask the owners to bring the dog inside for the night.
I think and hope they did. I was not aware of DDB at this point. Read
more of Tim's story and how he came to be an important part of our
mission to get dogs off of chains...

Ask them to PLEASE support the recently
proposed anti-tethering (chaining) ordinance as well as licensing with
higher fees for unaltered dogs( LITTER after LITTER are born from

Most
of the video clips were actually from the city of Rock Hill where you
can own unlimited animals as well. Our Animal Control is under the
county, so the county needs to pass the ordinance with Rock Hill in
agreement.
