Although we had media scheduled to come out, none ever showed, like how the chained dogs wait for food, water, companionship that never comes. However, Tamira did a social experiment called "ChainOff in Twitter" and "Chain Off in Facebook" where she posted blasts of what was going on for her friends to read and become engaged in the process. On Facebook the posts elicited much discussion and support.

Chain Off today in alachua Florida. Eight people are currently chained to doghouses in a shopping plaza lot. 11:49 AM Jul 3rd

Is it illegal to chain and tweet? 11:50 AM Jul 3rd

Two hours down, 22 to go. First chainee just used the portajohn. It's orange. 11:51 AM Jul 3rd

My chain is burning hot. I'm reminded of cinnamon's burn marks while on the chain in -11 degrees. Chain froze to her legs, I presume. 12:13 PM Jul 3rd

Some teenager just drove by in a truck laughing. Another came and took joes pic for facebook to spread the word. Or point and laugh. 12:30 PM Jul 3rd

Cop took a pic and sat and wrote in his little book. For good or for ill, one has to wonder. Joe getting cranky from the ant attacks. 1:14 PM Jul 3rd

Some people can't stay chained. Too antsy, no pun intended. It's boring as f, so they keep making excuses why they have to unchain. 1:28 PM Jul 3rd

Right now only five people chained. One guy only lasted two hours. Now he's gone. Don't even know who he was. 18 committed, ended up with 8. 1:30 PM Jul 3rd

People brought me yummy vegan food. Joes so picky he wouldn't eat it. He's finally going to get tortilla chips and cookies. 2:06 PM Jul 3rd

Visited the orange portajohn for the first time, a record in dehydration. Most excited to see hand sanitizer. It's the little things. 3:42 PM Jul 3rd

Joe was sleeping on his belly on top of his doghouse. I got awesome pics, which I have to prevent him from deleting. 4:01 PM Jul 3rd

First rain hit and had me squeezing into my doghouse, Joe and Rhonda laughing and taking unflattering photos to get even for the ones I took 4:56 PM Jul 3rd

It's raining and admittedly we are being wimpy and sitting under the ddb tent. The ants are here with us. Scotty says they don't sleep. 8:57 PM Jul 3rd

Rhonda said "don't tell tami anything cause she regurgitates it on facebook." but this is twitter, so it's all good. 9:15 PM Jul 3rd

We've got the stun gun out. Our teeth aren't as sharp as the dogs. We feel vulnerable chained out here at night, just the three of us. 9:48 PM Jul 3rd

1/2 way there! And this is only one half of one day on the chain compared to 365 days x 12 years for chained dogs. We must try harder! 9:54 PM Jul 3rd

Joe's very nervous about sleeping out here. My chain keeps getting wrapped around me as I sleep. Another sucky thing about chaining. 11:58 PM Jul 3rd

I feel vulnerable and sad. I'm holding Joe; I'm not alone. I feel the curled up chained dog in my soul. God's neediest creature, abandoned. 1:18 AM Jul 4th

Joe cheered me up when he asked me to look in his ear to see if any ants were making their way into his brain. 1:31 AM Jul 4th

Sleep is on again, off again. Joes off again, Rhondas on again. I'm in the middle, like Malcolm. Joe searches for what bit him in the neck. 3:38 AM Jul 4th

I wonder if I look as bad as I feel. Probably. 5:57 AM Jul 4th

Rhonda's hoping frantically for Kathryn to show up with her coffee, much like a dog waits for water which may or may not ever come. 6:10 AM Jul 4th

Two hours left. Rain comin'. Don't know if we'll beat it. Tic tacs don't really work for getting your mouth up-poopified. 9:00 AM Jul 4th

Joe's poking me with a stick, trying to get the grumpy chained dog to attack. 10:00 AM Jul 4th

One addition to the chained dog annoyance factor: ants. They bite and they swarm your food. & other bugs who contribute to chained dog hell. 10:50 AM Jul 4th
